Miko Marks is an American country, Americana, and roots singer and songwriter known for her resilience, emotional depth, and the unique blend of musical traditions that shape her sound. Born in Flint, Michigan, she grew up listening to gospel, Motown, soul, blues, and classic country music. These influences gave her a warm and expressive vocal style that would later define her artistic identity.

After earning a degree in political science from Grambling State University, Marks settled in the San Francisco Bay Area and began her musical career. She entered the country music scene in the mid 2000s with her debut album Freeway Bound in 2005 and her follow-up It Feels Good in 2007. Critics praised her strong voice and contemporary approach to songwriting. Despite this early promise, Marks faced steep barriers within the industry, particularly as a Black woman seeking space in mainstream country music.

Marks stepped away from recording for over a decade before returning with renewed purpose. Her 2021 album Our Country signaled a major creative shift and marked her reintroduction to a wider audience. The album blended country, folk, and roots music to explore themes of identity, justice, and perseverance. Its release earned strong critical acclaim and opened new doors for her career.

In 2022, she released Feel Like Going Home, a project that leaned even more deeply into Americana and roots traditions. The album featured a mix of blues, gospel, folk, and country influences and highlighted both her emotional storytelling and her vocal power. It appeared on several year-end best album lists and helped place Marks on prominent stages such as the Grand Ole Opry, AmericanaFest, and major national festivals.

Marks has also supported efforts to increase equity and visibility for underrepresented artists within the country and Americana fields. She has collaborated with the Black Opry and other organizations that celebrate the long history of Black musicians in American roots music.
